Resumen

Cooperation and integration among professionals in the field of genetics and clinical genomics continues to advance in order to improve the quality of care and the provision of complex services. This issue presents perspectives from Mexico, Panama, Colombia, and Honduras, offering an analysis based on experiences and observations in each of our countries. It is imperative that we take these perspectives and visions into account in order to advance in this great discipline. In addition, an original article is presented on hemodialysis patients and the prevalence of Metabolic Syndrome X.  Emphasis is placed on the need to understand the contribution of genetic factors, and candidate genes associated with these diseases are discussed.  Finally, medical students review the literature to promote education in genomics and the regulatory structures of a gene. We hope that this issue will provide a new perspective and allow us to move forward as a single unit in this growing field of genetics and genomics in our region.
